Los Angeles Times reports on the incandescents for LED Christmas lights trade-in program from Home Depot. The world's largest home improvement specialty retailer is encouraging customers to upgrade to more energy-efficient LED strings with its fourth annual Eco Options Christmas Light Trade-in, beginning on November 3 and running through Nov. 13 at all of Home Depot's 1,961 U.S. retail locations.

LEDtronics® announced another of its energy-saving LED light bulbs: the LED15T4 -SIW-120A T4 tube bulb with an E12 candelabra base and 120A input voltage. The 0.9-Watt consuming LED tube bulb replaces incandescent bulb numbers 15T4, 15T6/CB/130, 15T7/CB/130 and GE 15T7C 13494 up to 15 Watts.

A leading producer of LED lighting solutions, Bridgelux Inc. has announced the selection of its award-winning RS and ES LED arrays by light manufacturer Ilsung Moolsan of Korea. These energy-efficient LED arrays will be incorporated in the 1000 high performance downlights of Ilsung Moolsan that will be installed at the new Sheraton Hotel at D-Cube City in Seoul. The lights will appear in various public gathering areas such as the lobby, lounge, banquet hall, or indoor swimming pool and sauna.

It has been reported that Zhong Lin Wang and his research team from Georgia Institute of Technology have used zinc oxide microwires to significantly improve the efficiency at which gallium nitride light-emitting diodes (LED) convert electricity to ultraviolet light. The devices are believed to be the first LEDs whose performance has been enhanced by the creation of an electrical charge in a piezoelectric material using the piezo-phototronic effect.

Energy-efficient applications such as commercial horticulture are therefore much more efficient.
