Lighting Science Group and Dixon Announce Future Release of Sub-$15 LED

Aug 29, 2011 Indian premier LED developer and manufacturer Lighting Science Group and electronic products manufacturer Dixon Technologies India Pvt. Ltd have announced today their intent to produce an affordable LED lighting solution for the masses. This ominidirectional 60-watt equivalent A19 LED bulb is being designed by the two collaborating companies so that it can be available for less than $15 on the market.

Astronics Wins Contract from US Air Force to Improve Airfield Lighting

Aug 29, 2011 Astronics DME Corporation has reported on August 25 that  it was awarded an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract to provide LED airfield lighting for the U.S. Air Force, with a maximum value of $7.4 million. The five-year contract will replace taxiway lighting fixtures at Air Force bases in the continental U.S., Alaska, and Hawaii.

Research Highlights: White Light-Emitting Electrochemical Cell

Aug 29, 2011 Joint efforts of the research team from Umea University, Sweden and Merck KGaA, Germany has resulted in the development of a novel light-emitting electrochemical cell (LEC) that has  air-stable electrodes and a solution-processed single-layer active material that emits warm-white light (CIE coordinates = (0.39, 0.43); color rendering index =83) with significant brightness (B) at a low voltage.

Stars above Manhattan will be seen on Hudson River

Aug 29, 2011 For one week of September new yorkers will be able to see the stars usually hidden by city's light and other pollution. Project "Reflecting the Stars", part of the Climate Week NYC, will run from September 19 to 27 and will project the stars of the night sky above Manhattan onto the Hudson River. The wirelessly controlled solar-powered LED lights have been installed onto the decaying posts of Pier 49, near Bank Street  in Manhattan. Pressing a button on the shore will activate the system and light up the castellation that should be above your head at that moment.

WAC Lighting Combines Best of Both Technologies in the First-in-Class Hybrid LED/OLED Luminaire

Aug 26, 2011 In the official press release WAC Lighting has announced Hybrid, an innovative luminaire that represents the first of its kind. Hybrid merges LED and OLED technology to be used in their most salient functions.

Six luminaire panels, each offering an ultra-slim profile of 4.5mm, feature color changing RGB and white Organic LEDs with color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 6500K. Each OLED panel features colors that can be individually customized to the user's preference using a DMX Controller. The glare-free OLEDs deliver diffused ambient illumination and 300-plus lumens at 12 watts. At 3000K, the OLEDs' CRI (Color Rendering Index) is 80.

Intematix currently is a developer of new "patented phosphor materials and components for high-quality LED lighting," and the most recent patent is the fourth the company has received this year. Moreover, in addition to Intematix's six patents in the U.S., the corporation also has 85 other patents pending worldwide.
