Power Integration Releases New 25-Watt LED Driver From LinkSwitch-PH Series
Aug 26, 2011 Power Integrations, a "world leader in LED driver ICs for general lighting applications," has today published a new 25-watt LED T8 tube ballast power supply. An impressive quality about this new design is power efficiency of over 91% that it achieves. The single-stage solutions in the design also lead to a longer product lifetime, omitting opto-isolators and electrolytic input bulk capacitors common to two-stage solutions.
"Achieving very high power-conversion efficiency is as critical as LED choice in maximizing overall luminous efficacy," equates Andrew Smith, the product marketing manager at Power Integrations. Typically, achieving efficiencies above 88% in a T8 tube form factor and economically can be challenging. Except, when single-state topology is used, as in this design, efficiency easily passes 91%. The DER-287 design also passes low THD or high PF requirements set by other countries for commercial and industrial lighting applications, so it can be used worldwide.
The DER-287 is part of the LinkSwitch-PH LED driver family, combining controller, driver, and switching MOSFETs into one package. Like other products in this series, it comes with protection features, like over-temperature and over-current protection.
