Protect-R-Shield Unveils New LED Protective Circuitry Coating
Aug 31, 2011
As the summer ends, the introduction of Protect-R-Shield's (PRS) lens attachments for LED boards is beginning. The company is already known for its high quality conformal coating used to protect electronic circuit boards fr om environmental hazards, but now it's branching into the LED market. PRS has created a method to apply optical lenses to printed circuit boards with LED light sources.
So what will this mean for the LED market? Unlike previous lighting solutions, those using the PRS method will avoid the "time consuming, tedious and messy" struggles associated with secondary optical lens attachment to LEDs. The solution includes an exacting automated process wh ere the optical lenses are permanently bonded to the PCBs, using a special adhesive with a low-temperature heat cure. The careful application of the adhesive will prevent the solution from migrating to the surface of the LED.
The most challenging part during development was finding "a solution to attach the many different varieties, styles and shapes of lenses to LEDs" cost-effectively says product manager Don Cattoni. Since facing those challenges, developers have created a patent pending system to "secure lenses and holders with a specially formulated adhesive" and maintain safety from environmental effects.
Protect-R-Shield is a division of the parent company Shat-R-Shield, a business established for over 40 years, with a reputation for providing a variety of coatings in the lighting industry.
