Nualight Acquires Lumoluce To Enter Growing Niche in LED Industry
Sep 12, 2011
Today Nualight announced its acquisition of Lumoluce, an LED technology company from the Netherlands. The deal marks Nualight added focus into the food lighting market, as more retailers worldwide are expected to transition to energy-efficient LED lighting.
Currently, Nualight is known for its innovative LED lighting designed for refrigerated displays in the food market. The company also has accumulated big-name clients, including Tesco, Migros, Sainsbury, The Co-operative Group, Tenglemann, Stop and Shop and Carrefour. In addition, other companies like Walmart, Kroger, and Supervalu have replaced fluorescent lights with LEDs, yielding 70% energy savings. Given the steps these businesses have taken to using LEDs, it is expected the market is only beginning to grow as other food retail businesses follow suit. Estimates are the market will reach €1bn per year by 2016.
Nualight's technology is proven more efficient by 40% compared to equivalent HID lighting at competitive costs. The LEDs also provide the accent lighting for "high-margin fresh food displays" (grown foods, meat and fish) to make food as visually attractive as possible and seen in a quality light.
In commenting on the transaction between the companies, Nualight CEO, Dr. Liam Kelly, explains food retailers want "to make their business models as sustainable as possible," and LEDs fulfill that requirement both "in terms of price and performance."
