Cree's XLamp® Series Delivers 67% Energy Savings

Sep 13, 2011
Cree's XLamp® LEDs proved their energy efficiency and low-maintenance in the case of California Waste Connections Facility. The Cree-powered Xeralux LED high-bay fixtures were added to improve lighting quality, and have cut energy costs by two-thirds while almost eliminating maintenance costs.

Compared to the facility's previous lighting technology, that "didn't deliver the high-quality light" they needed, the Cree-powered system delivers "a brighter, whiter light that is very pleasing...The employees love it," says John Ryan, Facilities Manager at Cold Canyon. The retrofit provides better lighting with a better rate of return, making it a "great choice."

Analysis of site energy consumption has revealed the LED lighting system is saving 260-285 kWh per day, resulting in over $13,000 energy savings per year. Maintenance has also been near to obsolete because of the 50,000 projected lifetime of the retrofits.

Xeralux vice president of marketing, Jay Shuler, notes a problem faced in the past with high-bay lighting is "its high energy consumption and the high lumen output requirements." However, the XLamp LEDs reduce energy use while also offering brighter lighting to attain both ends.
