LED Art Piece GonKiRin Display at New York Hall of Science
Sep 15, 2011
Color LEDs were developed in part for practical use in applications like stage lighting and to yield creative light displays. The latter has certainly been produced by Hong Kong based LED artist Teddy Lo with his GonKiRin, the "art car" dragon.
GonKiRin debuted as a "Mutant Vehicle" at the 2010 Burning Man, created specifically for the annual event. However, the LED work of art has traveled as far as the New York Hall of Science, where the piece will be displayed for the World Maker Faire (Sept 17th and 18th). The piece was constructed using LED fixtures, metal, and built into the frame of a truck for mobility. Nearly 2,500 feet of linear RGB LED lights cover the massive art piece that collectively weighs 8 tons. This "Light Dragon" has already been featured at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit and will be featured in New York City's Halloween Parade.
Other LED artwork by Teddy Lo has been displayed internationally at museums, festivals and galleries.
