Shenzhen Project Replaces Over 10,000 Lights with Cree XLamp LEDs
Oct 13, 2011
In order to spread the "LED lighting revolution" in China, the nation recently completed its largest highway lighting project yet. Upgrading almost 75 miles of roadway with LED fixtures, The Shenzhen highway project replaced over 10,000 street lights to now feature over a million Cree XLamp® XP-G and XP-E High Efficiency White (HEW) LEDs.
Kingsun Optoelectronic Co., Ltd., chose Cree XLamp LEDs to light four highway sections and the Dameisha Tunnel in order to meet China's strict lighting expectations for light efficacy, brightness, luminance, heat dissipation, and service lifespan. Kingsun chose to use Cree XLamp XP-G and XP-E HEW LEDs because of high lumen output, superior efficacy, and compact package size, that the company expects will save 60% energy that would have otherwise been consumed by the replaced high pressure sodium fixtures. In economical terms, the money saved on energy consumption, when used to cover the initial cost of installation, will deliver an estimated return on investment of four years.
