LUXEON S from Future Lighting Solutions Used in Ophthalmic Microscopes by Scan Optics

Oct 21, 2011
Future Lighting Solutions has announced the integration of its LUXEON® LEDs into Scan Optics Pty Ltd.'s new range of ophthalmic microscopes. As a result of their addition, the LUXEON lights  decrease the microscopes' energy consumption by 60% and provide a 50,000 hours lamp life, far longer than their halogen equivalents.

Scan Optics is an international supplier and manufacturer of ophthalmic microscopes for cataract surgery, with a product range varying from mounted floor and table ophthalmic microscopes to surgical lights. Its products are distributed to over 120 countries worldwide, an expected characteristic given that Scan Optics is "a highly regarded Australian brand known for their emphasis on high quality ophthalmic microscope equipment." (John Philpott of Future Lighting Solutions) For Future Lighting Solutions, the partnership marks "another step in [their] efforts to drive LED lighting adoption in medical markets around the world."

Gary Lowder, Product Designer at Scan Optics noted the LUXEON S was specifically chosen for its ability to produce "an excellent warm color and uniform light pattern." Lowder continues to say Future Lighting solutions was "instrumental in helping [them] bring [the microscopes] to market."
