LEDs 2011 Highlights: Workshop and Day 1
Oct 26, 2011 LEDs 2011 Conference organized by Intertechpira is currently taking place at San Diego. It has brought together leading experts of the LED industry to discuss challenges and most recent advances in the field.
The conference has opened up with an excellent information packed workshop dedicated to the design of truly robust SSL systems. The speakers of the workshop included Rudolph Hechfellner, Applications Manager from PHILIPS LUMILEDS LIGHTING; Marijan Kostrun, Principal Scientist from OSRAM OPTO SEMICONDUCTORS; Chad Stalker, Regional Marketing Manager from PHILIPS LUMILEDS LIGHTING and Ralph Tuttle, Applications Engineering Manager from CREE, INC. The speakers not only engaged audience with their presentation and discussion of the multiple components involved in the quality and reliability of LED lighting systems, but also prepared demonstrations to illustrate most commonly observed problems. All of the speakers could not overemphasize how important it is to work closely with their technical team and use their application technical notes when designing your own LED lighting fixture. Their companies have spent tremendous effort trying to find conditions that allow the diodes to function well while maintaining the same lighting characteristics within the >50,000 hrs of expected lifetime. And most importantly, the LED manufacturers, truly want the LED Lighting design engineers to take advantage of the already accumulated knowledge base.
LEDs review has been fortunate to obtain exclusive insights from Rudolph Hechfellner, Chad Stalker and Ralph Tuttle that we will share with you soon after the conference conclusion.
The first day of the conference has been highlighted with the presentations of the representatives from Cree, Nichia, OSRAM Semiconductors, Abilux, IMS Research as well as by the presentation from James Brodrick, Lighting Program Manager from U.S. DOE, who brought an important government perspective and high expectations for the LED lighting development. The conference has also hosted an exhibition with over 40 participating companies.
There are several highly anticipated presentations of the novel products and breakthrough developments affecting LED manufacturing that will take place on the second day of the conference, including presentation by Julian Carey from Intematix on the phosphor design for new LEDs architecture and "Advanced Optical Packaging for High-Efficient Surface Illumination " by Eran Fine from Oree Inc.
