Korea Ban to Affect LG and Samsung LED Distribution
Nov 7, 2011 In a new decision reached by Korea's Commission for Shared Growth for Large and Small Companies, LG and Samsung have been restricted by a ban on selling LED products in Korea. Along with other conglomerates, or chaebols, the two industrial giants were recommended to 'withdraw' fr om the nation's LED market in a second round of decisions made by the government.
Prime Minister Chung Un-chan made the announcement regarding the total 25 items banned as part of the ongoing shared-growth campaign. The reason for this move, which will also prevent other industries' large companies from selling products like kimchi and tofu, was to protect smaller companies. Compared to the chaebols, the smaller businesses do not have the facilities to produce as much as the larger companies. Despite this lim itation, the companies will be able to continue international LED sales as the ban only applied to domestic business.
