Hyperspec RECON™ Chosen as PRISM Award Finalist

Nov 22, 2011 Headwall Photonics has announced that the Hyperspec® RECON™ handheld sensor has been nominated as one of three finalist products in the Military/Defense category for the 2011 PRISM Awards. The winning product will be announced in January by SPIE and Photonics Media during  Photonics West.

The Hyperspec RECON handheld sensor allows for discrete target identification and hyperspectral scene rendering for reconnaissance applications at distances of 1.5 kilometers. Ruggedized, portable, and field-deployable, the instrument rapidly and accurately scans the field of view utilizing either the customized wide or narrow field of view optics. It is the industry's first handheld imager designed specifically for military reconnaissance missions and can also be deployed in unattended stationary situations. This makes Hyperspec RECON exceptionally flexible across a wide range of use cases and environments.

The Hyperspec RECON sensor was selected because of its optical sensing capabilities, simple push-button operation, and the ability to offer flexible mission objectives and target sets that are quickly downloaded to the sensor. The sensor can also be operated remotely as an unattended ground sensor.

"Being nominated for this award is a tremendous honor," said Headwall CEO David Bannon. "Our peers across the sensor and photonics industries see that Headwall has exciting, ready-for-market technologies that can be used across a wide range of applications." The Hyperspec RECON sensor joins other Headwall products suited for border patrol, base & homeland security, pharmaceuticals, unmanned ground vehicles, automated food processing, and agriculture.
