Philips Vari-Lite VLX Wash Luminaire Now Shipping

Apr 6, 2010 Philips Vari-Lite announced that the innovative VARI*LITE® VLX™ Wash automated luminaire is now shipping. The VLX Wash luminaire incorporates all the benefits of virtually maintenance-free LED lighting technology with the best visual performance characteristics of a tungsten lamp source.

“We are very excited to commence with deliveries of the VLX Wash,” stated Bob Schacherl, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We have received overwhelming positive responses from our dealers, lighting designers and end users since we previewed prototypes last fall.”

24 VARI*LITE® VLX™ Wash luminaires supplied by Upstaging, Inc., were chosen by lighting designer John Featherstone and the creative team at Lightswitch to create a high-powered lighting design for the ceremony of unveiling the world’s first commercial spacecraft in December, 2009.

“Our goal was to give them a light show which could be seen for miles across the desert and our creative and talented team would be put to the test to develop an overall concept that was utterly unforgettable. As we began selecting the exact fixtures we would use in the lighting design, we had to keep three main attributes in mind at all times; eco-friendly technology, power, and the ability to maintain performance amidst the challenges presented by operating outdoors in the desert. To keep in line with the Green initiatives, I looked at a number of LED fixtures on the market and the VLX Wash is significantly brighter than all of them. Plus, when you add in the solid-state and full-enclosure design, the VLX Wash was a perfect fit.”
